It blocks both ultraviolet and infrared light from reaching the film\/sensor. In general, it is mainly intended to be used with digital cameras that do not have an IR filter in front of the sensor. It can introduce a green color shift at the edge of the frame when used with wide-angle lenses. The Leica M8\/8.2 however will compensate for this.
