Canon A-1 - Camera

Manual focus 35mm FD mount SLR camera released by Canon in 1978. The A-1 features several different auto exposure modes such as shutter priority, aperture priority, and programmed fully-automatic mode. It was the first SLR camera to feature fully programmed auto exposure and the first to have the four standard exposure modes seen in modern digital cameras (PSAM). Plastic body available in black.

  • Shutter: Electronically controlled shutter, 30s - 1/1000s + B
  • ISO range: 6 - 12800
  • Size: 146 x 93 x 50mm
  • Weight: 591g
Compatible battery type(s) for the Canon A1: 4LR44 6V

  • Light Seals

Light seals, are thin strips of black foam that keep unwanted light from leaking into your camera body. Since they degrade with time, we replace them on most cameras that need it. This keeps your images free of light leaks.

  • Automatic Exposure / Metering

The amount of automatic features in a camera will determine the path of machine testing we must perform. These tests can check light meters and automatic features through a range of exposure values. Calibrated lenses and calibrated light boxes also assist in this process.

  • Shutter Speeds

We use period-appropriate, professional-grade testing equipment as necessary to accurately assess shutter performance. These machines tell us how long a shutter stays open and whether or not the shutter curtains are moving correctly. We have multiple machines that allow us to test nearly every camera type available.

  • Infinity Focusing & Rangefinder Alignment

Our collimator is used to simulate infinity focus for the purpose of ensuring lens alignment & focus at any distance. We also use a special high-contrast target board to ensure that rangefinders are properly aligned both vertically & horizontally.
