Manual focus normal lens made for M-mount rangefinder cameras introduced by Leica in 1956. Leica made many different versions of the 5cm f2 Summicron that differ in both design and optical formula. This is the second model of the lens. The body changed to a non-collapsible, rigid design with a slightly different optical formula. The number of elements stayed the same, but the shape of the elements in the front two groups had changed slightly. This chrome-plated brass lens is known under multiple product codes, as the codes changed over the years. The lens also became available in black in 1961. This catalog is for the silver version. Throughout the production, the design underwent some changes. Most notable is the focusing scale and focusing ring. Some lenses have the focusing scale in meters, others in feet, and some have both. The lenses with both also have a larger focusing ring with finer knurling. Some models have "5cm" while others have "50mm" engraved on the name ring. Metal body available in silver.
