Manual focus R-mount 35mm SLR camera introduced by Leica in 1985. The R4s MOD. 2 (MOD. P in the US) is an improved version of the R4s with many new and redesigned features. It added a sliding switch for exposure compensation and now has the shutter speed visible in the viewfinder in manual mode. It also has a plastic-sheathed advance lever, a redesigned mode selector, and a taller rewind crank. The eyepiece rail now accepts a locking eyecup or diopter lens frame. The original R4s is a simplified version of the R4. It removed the program and time priority modes and only offered the aperture-priority auto and manual exposure modes. The R4 was developed in collaboration with Minolta and incorporated selected Minolta XD11 electronics and body parts to deliver a more compact and lighter camera than the earlier R3. It uses two S76 (SR44) batteries. The camera is compatible with 3-Cam and 3rd Cam lenses that transmit both maximum and set apertures to the TTL exposure meter. It is compatible with the Leica R Motor Winder. Metal and plastic body available in black (10046).
