Manual focus wide-to-telephoto zoom lens made for R-mount 35mm SLR cameras, initially introduced by Leica in 1990. This is a special edition of the lens made for the limited LEICA R-E camera for the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. It has an engraving on the front nameplate, but is otherwise identical to the normal version. The lens/camera kit was released in a small batch of 5000 units. The 28-70mm f3.5-4.5 Vario-Elmar-R was developed in collaboration with Sigma. It features a built-in retractable lens hood and uses E60 screw-on filters. The optical system and filter thread rotate when focusing, so the use of polarizing filters is not recommended. This lens has a 3-Cam mount. 3-Cam lenses have two sloped cams and a third stepped cam and are compatible with all Leicaflex and R-series cameras. Metal body available in black (11265).
