Model Details

Manual focus wide-angle zoom lens made for R-mount 35mm SLR cameras introduced by Leica in 2002. This was the second-to-last zoom lens that Leica made for the R-mount cameras. It uses two aspherical elements for optimal performance. This lens has a ROM Cam mount. ROM Cam lenses have a stepped cam, like on the 3rd-Cam, plus electronic contacts. They are compatible with all R-series cameras. The electronic contacts are only supported on the R8/R9. They will not fit Leicaflex cameras. Metal body available in black (11274).

Leica R

Leica introduced the R system in 1964 as an alternative to their M mount rangefinders and as a response to the successful SLR systems of the time, including Nikon F and Pentax M42. The R system was produced, with some modifications, until 2009.

Most R mount lenses can be used on any R mount camera, but there are compatibility issues with both the oldest and newest lenses. Over time, Leica added features and technology to the lenses that made them incompatible.
