Manual focus R-mount 35mm SLR camera introduced by Leica in 1980. This is an early production R4 with MOT Electronic written on the body. All R4 cameras are compatible with the Leica R Motor Winder. Only very early cameras are marked R4 MOT Electronic. The R4 was developed in collaboration with Minolta, like the R3. It incorporated selected Minolta XD11 electronics and body parts to deliver a more compact and lighter camera than the earlier R3. It added programmed and shutter-priority automatic exposure modes and permits center-weighted integrated and selective area metering. It uses two S76 (SR44) batteries. The camera is compatible with 3-Cam and 3rd Cam lenses that transmit both maximum and set apertures to the TTL exposure meter. Metal and plastic body available in black (10043).
