Manual focus R-mount 35mm SLR film camera introduced by Leica in 1987. The R5 improved upon the R4 with multiple new features. It was the first Leica SLR to offer TTL flash exposure automation utilizing the SCA 300/500 system and the SCA 351/551 adapter. It also features a variable program mode that allows the photographer to bias the exposure towards shorter exposure times (less depth of field) or longer exposure times (more depth of field). It now also has an extended shutter speed range, built-in diopter control, a PC flash port, and internal contacts for the databack accessory, eliminating external wires. The camera is compatible with 3-Cam and 3rd Cam lenses that transmit both maximum and set apertures to the TTL exposure meter. It is also compatible with the Leica Motor Winder. Metal body available in black (10061).
