Model Details

Manual focus telephoto lens made for R-mount 35mm SLR cameras introduced by Leica in 1975. Leica made two versions of this lens. This is the first version that uses Series 7.5 drop-in filters held in place by ring 14222. On the second version (above serial number 2947024), the filter mount changed to E60. The two versions are otherwise identical. It has a built-in lens hood and a 14-degree angle of view. The APO-Telyt-R is part of a series of special E.S.R. (extended special range) lenses developed by Leitz Canada that outperform any previous telephoto lens with its high refracting optical glass. The lens was originally developed in the early 1970s as part of a U.S. Navy camera program but became commercially available in 1975. This lens has a 2-Cam mount. 2-Cam lenses have two sloped cams and are compatible with the standard Leicaflex and R-series cameras in stop-down metering mode only. They are not recommended to be used on the R8/R9. Metal body available in black (11240).

Leica R

Leica introduced the R system in 1964 as an alternative to their M mount rangefinders and as a response to the successful SLR systems of the time, including Nikon F and Pentax M42. The R system was produced, with some modifications, until 2009.

Most R mount lenses can be used on any R mount camera, but there are compatibility issues with both the oldest and newest lenses. Over time, Leica added features and technology to the lenses that made them incompatible.
