Certified

Tested & inspected with special tools and machinery, found to be working correctly (or unused in original packaging). Any flaws present will be noted and will not affect typical use.

Staff Notes

There are a few small spots of coating damage on the front element and a few minor scratches on the rear element. They won't affect image quality at all. Otherwise the lens is working well!

This lens' serial number (2167102) does not fall within the expected Type I range. By serial number alone, it should be a Type II lens. But, by all accounts, this is a normal Type I that uses the OLLUX hood and E41 filters. It certainly does not accept the 12504 hood and Series VII filters of the Type II. It's possible the name ring and serial number were swapped by Leica during a previous service, or that this is some type of transition model between the Type I and Type II. The rare combo of steel rim on black lens also stands out as a unique quirk of this particular example.

Leica 35mm f1.4 Summilux (Type I, Steel Rim) (Black, 11869) - Lens

Manual focus wide normal lens made for M-mount rangefinder cameras introduced by Leica starting in 1961. This was the first 35mm f1.4 Summilux that Leica made. It was made for the M2 and uses 7 spherical elements. This Type I lens uses E41 filters and the OLLUX 12522 hood. It was later changed in 1966 (Type II) to use Series VII filters and the 12504 hood. This lens has an exposed Steel Rim that was usually painted together with the body on the black lenses. Metal body available in black (11869).
