Details: Hasselblad SWC/M + SWC Viewfinder (52035/TISOC) + A12N Film Magazine

120 roll-film manual focus super-wide Hasselblad V system medium format camera introduced by Hasselblad in 1980. A modified version of the older SCW indicated by the "M" in the name. The viewfinder was raised and the quick-release base was lowered. This was done primarily to allow the use of a Polaroid back (Hasselblad recommends only using the model 100 back and not the model 80 because of incompatible designs). The advance/shutter cocking crank was also changed. The SWC/M with the C style lens is a relatively low production camera with at most 2000 cameras assembled. Metal body available in chrome.

  • Lens: Carl Zeiss 38mm f4.5 Biogon T* (8 elements, 5 groups)
  • Minimum focus distance: 0.3m
  • Shutter: Synchro-Compur, 1s - 1/500s + B
  • Size: 125 x 111 x 109mm
  • Weight: 867g (body only)

Accessory viewfinder made for the Hasselblad 38mm Biogon on the Super Wide C by Hasselblad. Has a reflecting prism to show the bubble level on the body. Later versions (1970 to 1985) has a rubber bumper on the eyepiece. Metal body available in black.

  • Size: 58 x 44 x 41mm (newer version)
  • Weight: 82g (newer version)

120 film magazine made for the Hasselblad V system medium format cameras by Hasselblad introduced in 1985. A12N ("New") is not a factory designation but one that seems to be in general use to differentiate the early and later versions of the A12. A number of changes were made both internally and externally. Most noticeably the change from two spool-holders to only one, the number "12" written on the release button, and the "Made in Sweden by Victor Hasselblad" on the side. There is also a variant available with the text "A12–6x6" instead of a number on the release button. In 1997 the magazines were fitted with a built-in dark slide holder on the back. Metal body available in chrome and black.

  • Size: 98 x 91 x 49mm
  • Weight: 391g

Hasselblad V

The Hasselblad V system consists of a variety of 6x6 medium format cameras that began production in 1948. These bodies were produced, with many iterations, until 2013. All Hasselblad V cameras use medium format (generally 120) roll film and produce 6x6cm square images.

The first cameras of the V system, the 1600F and 1000F, used in-body focal plane shutters. While they were successful, issues with reliability and fragility, as well as user desire to sync flash more easily, prompted Hasselblad to switch to lens-based leaf shutters.

The first Hasselblad with a leaf shutter was the 500C in 1957. These lenses, fitted with Synchro Compur shutters, proved incredibly robust, reliable, and popular. NASA even brought these cameras to the moon, as Hasselblad loves to remind us! The famous ”Earthrise” photo, with the Earth rising over the horizon of the moon, was taken with a modified Hasselblad 500EL and 250mm lens.

For the next 60 years Hasselblad cameras would stand as the definitive modular SLR experience. Despite innovations from companies like Mamiya, Zenza Bronica, and Rolleiflex, the Hasselblad V system was the bar to reach in terms of build/image quality.

Hasselblad V cameras have access to a wide array of Carl Zeiss lenses as well as a series of interchangeable backs, allowing the cameras to shoot 6x6, 6x4.5, and 35mm panoramic. There are even digital backs that can turn your 60 year old Hasselblad into a modern digital camera!
