Manual focus R-mount 35mm SLR camera introduced by Leica in 1990. The R-E is a simplified R5 without the program or time priority modes. It still features the center-weighted full-area and spot-meter exposure readings and TTL flash exposure automation utilizing the SCA 300/500 system and the SCA 351/551 adapter. Other R5 features, such as the top 1/2000s shutter speed, interchangeable focusing screens, and diopter control in the viewfinder, remained. The camera is compatible with 3-Cam and 3rd Cam lenses that transmit both maximum and set apertures to the TTL exposure meter. It is also compatible with the Leica Motor Winder and drive. Metal body available in black (10055).
