Voigtländer Prominent I - Camera

35mm manual focus rangefinder camera released by Voigtländer & Sohn AG in 1950. Fully advanced (for its time) mechanical camera made as a counterpart to the Leica and Contax cameras but never became as popular. Was the first rangefinder to have a built-in leaf shutter. Focus is not done by the lens, but rather by a knob on the top right of the camera that moves the shutter housing and is coupled to the rangefinder. Film advance is double stroke and cocks the shutter simultaneously. Has a self-timer, a PC flash connection that will sync at all speeds, and a film reminder and tripod socket on the bottom. Two different models were made: Type 127 with or without an accessory shoe and a Compur rapid or synchro Compur shutter. And a Type 128 with a rapid lever film advance and a Compur rapid or synchro Compur shutter. Six lenses for the Prominent were produced: Nokton 50mm f1.5, Ultron 50mm f2, Color Skopar 50mm f3.5, Skoparon 35mm f3.5, Dynaron 100mm f4.5 and Super-Dynaron 150mm f4.5. The viewfinder has frame lines for 50mm and 35mm, a separate viewfinder with other frame lines was produced. Metal body available in silver.
